A Pondering Heart: Lyre Improvisation
Included are seventeen pieces on the 19-string acoustic lyre. I switched between two Brandon John builds, one being the American Cherry and the second, also an American Cherry but with a Walnut soundboard. Both instruments are extremely similar in tone and my choice between the two primarily depended on the tuning each was set in at the time, rather than a superiority between the builds. A Pondering Heart is my first full album of lyre improvisation and truly was a blast to put together; exploring all the surprises and vulnerabilities that come along with improvisation. Never knowing exactly what’s going to come out allows me to be simultaneously participant and receiver which is, from my perspective, the ‘best of both worlds.’ It is both a humbling and particularly joyful task and one which I hope you enjoy.
Spiritual Reflection: I find improvisation to be a particularly vulnerable task calling for an openness of heart that, from my experience, can be difficult to allow amidst fears, tendencies for control, or self-conscious preoccupations. However when, by the grace of God, the heart can relax enough within the embrace of the Lord to receive his gifts and to share them freely, there is a form of beauty that emerges which touches both the artist and those with whom it is shared. It is this humble and trusting heart that one might call ‘a pondering heart’ and is one which is filled with awe and gratitude for the gift of participating in such beauty. May we all receive the grace to have our hearts continually transformed into pondering hearts, seeking the face of God in and through all things. God bless you all!
Light in the Wind: Lyre and Whistle Duets
Light in the Wind includes eight original duet compositions utilizing the 19-string lyre, low whistle, and tin / penny whistle. Writing with both string and wind instruments has been a joy as I play with the unique sounds and characteristics of each instrument; drawing them together in ways that both highlight and elevate the gifts of each instrument . Spiritual Reflection: The Holy Spirit is often described through the images of wind, air, or breath. He is one that can be felt but, like the wind, cannot be grasped with our hand or even seen with our bodily eyes. Light too escapes our capture and yet it illumines all for our humble receptivity. Just as with the Spirit, both light and wind are impossible to make our own possessions and yet they move us, touch us, and bring to life all that in within and without. Evading our hold, we are called to a docility of faith which brings about hope, joy, and love, and draws us above the heights of our own knowing and into the knowing of the One whose love sustains us at every moment. It is my hope that these songs serve as a little vehicle for the Holy Spirit to speak of word of love to you, in whatever form that may take, and may remain a gift to you for time to come. Shepherd’s Abode: Classical Piano Improvisation for Prayer
The format for this album slightly differs, in two ways, from other albums. 1) Each track is much longer and includes several different movements in order to allow for lengthier songs to accompany your prayer. 2) There is no ‘end’ of the album, but rather it will be an ongoing work, with continual updates as new piano music comes. You are therefore invited to return to this album to hear new songs as they arise, and to add, if desired, to your music for prayer.
Spiritual Reflection: Shepherd’s Abode is a collection of classical piano improvisations, intended for prayer and dwelling within the heart of Christ. The Lord, our true Shepherd, opens his heart and his life, within the very life of the Triune God, for us to share in and to make our home – our abode. May the music offered here be a small gift to aid you in resting within the embrace of God.
Butterfly Dream: Compositions for the Lyre
Butterfly Dream includes eight original compositions on the 19-string lyre. Played on an American cherry wood, solid body lyre made by Brandon John Luthier, this album offers sweet melodies from a delicate and ancient instrument. Published February 2025
Spiritual Reflection: Butterflies, symbols of transformation, rebirth, and new life, grant us a small image of our hope, our longing, perhaps our dream, of life in Christ. Remaining our unique selves, yet radically and beautifully transformed into a new creation, we are born anew through the breath of the Spirit, the gift of the Son, and the mercy of the Father. May we live with and in such hope, uniting our dreams with that of the one who loves us and grants us wings to love and live with him, in him, and through him.
Singing with David: Scriptural Songs for the Lyre (Vol. 1)
This album is a collection of twelve songs written for various psalms with the accompaniment of the lyre. My hope is that these more simple tunes provide songs that are easy to pray with as well as to play, if desired. Published May 2024.

Spiritual Reflection: Beauty has the capacity to touch within us some of the deepest and most tender recesses of our hearts. Yet, such touches are of the most tender and gentle nature, absent of any shouting or obtrusiveness. At times, through only the smallest whispers do we hear within ourselves the call of beauty and we are drawn to the source and summit of such a mysterious yet personal voice. Held by a Promise: Compositions on the Low Irish Whistle
Included in this album are eight original compositions for the Low Whistle. This instrument is familiar in much of Irish music and is also known by its close relative, the Tin or Penny Whistle. Enjoying the soaring tones of this instrument, the album seeks to explore and play within the beauty of simple yet heart-wrenching melodic lines. Published October 2023.
